Maxmilián Aaron Mootz
Maxmilián Aaron Mootz (1995) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Painting Studio II, under the guidance of Vladimír Skrepl, Milan Mikuláštík, and Julius Reichel. His work focuses on interventions in public space, guerrilla exhibitions, conceptual installations, DIY objects, and painting. At the center of his interest is the phenomenon of urban life—inverting, underlining, and recontextualizing its everyday banalities. For the author, Prague is not merely a source of inspiration; he also thinks of it as a 496 km² open-air 24/7 studio, workshop, and gallery. In his strongly expressive and simple painting, he most often processes stories of urban fauna. The author's style is characterized by an economical graphic gesture, intense coloring, and an uncompromising line.
Currently, he focuses primarily on the theme of urban transportation. His diploma work Lame (2025) gained notable attention, reflecting on the colonization of public space by private commercial projects. In this work, the author places wooden replicas of shared electric scooters among the real ones. At first glance faithful, yet non-functional imitations made from invasive wood species become objects of confusion, comic situations, but also absolute fusion with their models.
